Haiti Earthquake:

God's Judgment or Natural Disaster?

My heart breaks for the families that have lost so many loved ones.  It almost seems unfair that such abject poverty stricken people have to now endure such multiplied tragedy.  Father, breathe your life into that country through those that are able to provide support.

I just heard that Pat Robertson said that Haiti experienced this earthquake as a result of the people giving their souls to the devil through witchcraft and demon worship.  What a bonehead thing to say.  A man that has done so many good things and probably loves the Lord, doesn't understand the cross and what Jesus accomplished…amazing.

God judged sin once and for all in the body of Jesus while he was on the cross.  All sin for the entire world, past, present and future, was punished and judged in Jesus for you.  If God is sending earthquakes as a result of sin, then Jesus failed.

It's this kind of mixed covenant teaching that makes Christians, and our God, look schizophrenic. On one hand, we tell people "God loves you", but then we scare and guilt them by saying God is still punishing sin.  God said in Jeremiah 31 that once the New Covenant was established, and it was when Jesus rose from the dead, then he would remember our sins no more.  2 Corinthians 5:19 tells us that God is no longer holding our sins against us.  If he’s not holding our sins against us, then how can he judge our sins?  That's not a license to sin or compromising the Gospel (as some have said), that's a freedom to love and be loved and walk in relationship as opposed to servanthood.

The people of Haiti are not being judged.  The Day of Judgment will one day come but it won't be based on your sin, it will be based on what you have done with the free gift of righteousness Jesus offers FREELY.

Some might say, well he’s God, surely he could have done something.  That question leaves out the authority of man in this Earth established at the creation of man, God gave this Earth to man.  God can’t just do whatever he wants in this Earth because man is sovereign in this Earth.  We have been given the position by God and God works through man so what we see in the Earth is a result of how we have managed it, not the result of God’s decisions and acts.

You want to know what God’s will for Earth is?  Look in the Garden of Eden and look in Heaven.  Jesus even prayed, “your will be done on Earth as it is in Heaven”.  God is not “allowing” such tragedy in Haiti or even in your life.  He wants Heaven in your life, not heartache and loss.

Believers need to wake up and become well versed in righteousness and understand what the cross of Christ actually accomplished and get both feet in the New Covenant.

Pat, go back and learn of Jesus and quit preaching a mixed covenant teaching.  Love you bud, but you're wrong!

Re: Haiti Earthquake: God's Judgment or Natural Disaster?

Matt. 5:43-48 Jesus says, "You have heard that it was said, Love your neighbor and hate your enemy. But I tell you Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be sons of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Are not even the tax collectors doing that? And if you greet only your brothers, what are you doing more than others? Do not even pagans do that? Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect."
As I have been reading and studying this I can see where ALL of us, whether mighty in God's word or just a meek pastor of a small flock or even the peoples of Haiti have failed in accordance with just this small passage from God's word. Those of us getting upset and even angry at Pat Robertson and his words of judgement, wrong as they are, we are to correct a brother in LOVE and share scripture like Matt. 5:43-48. God does allow the sun and the rain to fall on EVERYONE, righteous and unrighteous alike. Also remember, Jesus said "the poor you will always have" but Jesus you will not always have...to share with the poor lost soul.
